It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our founder, Kenneth Heller on January 16, 2020. Ken founded Creative Metal Industries in San Diego County in 1994 after serving in the US Navy for 30 years. As many of you already know, Ken was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, on June 6, 2014. With the devotion of Joyce Hernandez and his team of compassionate caregivers, Ken battled this disease for 5-1/2 years and can finally Rest in Peace. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Emiko Heller.
Ken’s service will take place February 15th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Aztlan Mortuary:
7856 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA 91942 https://www.aztlanmortuary.com/
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made here, on our Greater San Diego Walk to Defeat ALS Happy Feet website. Thank you all so much for the support over the years.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
That’s why we’re participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS. To bring hope. To raise awareness. To provide resources and services to families free of charge. To help unlock the mystery of ALS and find the key to treatments a cure. Will you join us?
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to provide help and hope today!
