Help me raise money to find a cure for ALS!

Welcome to my page! I walk in honor of my mom, Jane Rieck, who was diagnosed 6 years ago.
Over the past 6 years, I have lead a team of friends and family, Team Jane, in various Walk to Defeat ALS events in both San Diego and Wisconsin (where my mom lives). Three years ago, I transitioned to team BD, which was created when BD was a walk sponsor. I am so proud of the money and awareness both Team Jane and team BD have raised.
**Following is a bit about my mom in the form of a little summary she and I wrote for an ALS association fundraising event in Wisconsin:
- In her second year of retirement (after 40 years as a nurse), Jane began experiencing weakness in two fingers of her left hand. Initially thought to be a pinched nerve in the neck, Jane saw a neurologist and was diagnosed with ALS in June 2015. Second opinions from Froedtert Hospital and Mayo Clinic confirmed the diagnosis.
- In the past 6 and a half years, Jane has lost the use of her arms and most use of her legs. She can no longer speak and communicates with an eye gaze computer. Swallowing and breathing are compromised. Most nourishment is provided through a feeding tube in her stomach.
- Jane feels fortunate to remain at home being cared for by her wonderful family and home health caregivers. Jane and her family are grateful to the ALS Association for the many services she's received. This includes local support groups, care coordination, financial assistance, and equipment from the ALSA loan closet. But, most of all the unending support of the ALSA care services team.
- Jane, along with her family and friends, has participated in local ALS Walks the last several years. They have seen first-hand how walk events bring awareness to this awful disease and how funds raised are necessary for the ALS Association to continue to support research and services for those living with ALS.
Please help me support the ALS Association by making a donation through my page. The process is fast, easy and secure. Also, if interested, please join team BD at the Greater San Diego Walk to Defeat ALS.
Thanks so much for your support... and please don't forget to send this page to any friends you think might be interested in donating!

=============================================
Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
That’s why I’m walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You Have ALS” again.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But, we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
