On June 3, 2018, The Shah and Vakil families joined together as Team Bhopa to participate in the 2018 San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon and raise funds towards an ALS cure and making a difference in the lives of those affected by the disease. The team did so on behalf of family member Dr. Mahipal Shah (affectionately known as Bhopa by his family and friends since childhood), who was diagnosed with ALS a few months ago. A loving father, devoted husband, dotting grandfather, caring brother, generous uncle and a loyal friend to many, Dr. Shah was forced into retirement in December, after serving the southern California and Gujarat, India community as an Orthopedic Surgeon for almost 50 years. Leading up to the event, Team Bhopa had already exceeded its goal by raising more than $20K for the ALS Association Greater San Diego Chapter.
